Good morning. In the last few days, we saw a lot of misinformation related to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In this digest, we look at some of the false and misleading claims being circulated in India about coronavirus.

Misleading Treatment Claims

1) Camphor does not help with oxygen levels

Several fact-checking websites have flagged as misleading viral social media posts that claimed that inhaling camphor, cloves, and carron seeds could help raise oxygen level in body. The posts claim that this home remedy is also used by tourists in Ladakh when they experience low blood oxygen levels. So far, there is so scientific evidence in support of this claim.

This and similar such messages come at a time when hospitals across the country are confronting severe oxygen suppy shortages. At many places, several patients have died due to the lack of oxygen. While desperate individuals seek any treatment that could potentially save their loved ones, experts advise caution and recommend using an oximeter to track oxygen levels, and seeking professional help in case of emergencies.

2) Nebulizer is not a substitute of oxygen cylinder

Fact-checking websites have also busted a viral claim made in a video that nebulizer can be used as an alternative to oxygen cylinders.
